Fatu

One of the World's last two Northern white Rhinos

Fatu is one of the last two remaining northern white rhinos on the planet, a living symbol of both the fragility of life and the urgent need for conservation. Born on June 29, 2000, Fatu lives under 24/7 armed protection at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya alongside her mother, Najin. As the only remaining individuals of their subspecies, they represent the final hope in the race to save the northern white rhino from extinction.

Fatu is especially significant because she is the only northern white rhino with the potential to provide eggs for advanced scientific efforts, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), aimed at reviving the species. Despite the immense pressures of her role in conservation, Fatu continues to inspire people around the world. Her strength and presence remind us of what is at stake—and how human effort, science, and compassion must work together to protect the wonders of the natural world.
